Safety tips
In short
- Pay only in the app. Never send money by UPI, bank transfer or a link to a seller.
- Never share an OTP or scan a QR code to “receive” money. Haggel will never ask for either.
- Meeting up? Meet in a busy public place, in daylight, and pay only after you've checked the item.
- Report anything that feels wrong. We read every report.
1For buyers
- Pay only in the app. Never send money by UPI, bank transfer or a link. Only in-app payments are covered by the refund.
- Meeting up? Pay after you've checked it. Never pay an advance or a “token” to hold an item.
- Meet in a busy public place, in daylight. Take someone along if you can.
- Never share an OTP or scan a QR to “receive” money. Haggel will never ask for either.
Advance payments. A seller asking for a “token”, “booking amount” or “delivery charge” before you've seen the item is the most common scam. Don't pay it.
Phones. Before you pay at a meet-up, check the IMEI on Sanchar Saathi (SMS KYM <IMEI> to 14422), check it isn't locked to an Apple or Google account, and ask for the bill.
Too good to be true. A new iPhone at half price usually isn't real.
2For sellers
- You never need to scan a QR or share an OTP to receive money. Anyone asking is trying to scam you.
- Delivery? Hand it over only to our partner at pickup. The buyer has already paid in the app.
- Meeting up? Hand it over once you've got the money. Check the payment has reached your account; a screenshot isn't proof.
- Meet in a busy public place, in daylight.
Fake payment screenshots. Check the money has reached your bank or UPI app. A screenshot or an SMS isn't proof.
“Pay to receive” requests. Receiving money never needs your PIN, an OTP or a QR scan.
Your address. Share your exact address only for a confirmed pickup or meet-up.
3How we keep chats safe
Messages are checked automatically to stop fraud, spam and abuse. We block payment details in chat (UPI IDs, bank accounts, payment links and QR codes), hide scams and abuse, and limit accounts that break the rules. If we hid your message by mistake, ask for a review.
4If something goes wrong
- Report it in the app.
- Call the cyber-crime helpline 1930 or use cybercrime.gov.in.
- In danger, call 112.
